Cultivating Connection
Theme for the week - connection vs isolation!
Before you start reading, take a moment to notice your present moment experience of connection. Do you feel connected to your loved ones, your communities, yourself, something larger, the non-human world, etc, etc? How are you feeding your innate craving for connection during this time of isolation? Can you feel that craving in your body - like an invisible pull towards what you love?
Over the last few weeks, Your Yoga has been exploring the cravings of the 3 major parts of the brain. Our brain stem wants to feel safe and secure. Our limbic system wants to feel comfortable and satisfied that it has everything it needs. And this week, we are exploring our cortex, the higher level part of our brain that is nourished by love and connection.
So how do we cultivate love and connection when so many of us are physically isolated?
You may have already gotten creative with video calls, backyard bbq’s, online learning, and extra time outside. We’re all learning new ways to stay connected these days. That said, more than ever, we need practices that help us internalize physical, emotional and spiritual feelings of love and connection.
This week in Your Yoga, we’ll work with breathing, meditation and yoga practices that can help us cultivate and embody these feelings and sensations. Research shows that feeling connected has a host of positive consequences, not the lease of which is happiness and longevity!
Join me at Your Yoga and listen to this 9 minute guided audio meditation to explore a mindfulness meditation practice that builds connection.
Sending you love and big hugs,
Rachel
