Let’s stop "waiting" for the pandemic to be over and take action. Do something really good for your mind/body/brain today!
In case you’ve been sitting on the fence, here are answers to my most commonly asked questions.
Q: Why did you choose an 8 week format?
Research shows that 60 minutes of meditation a week over the course of 8 weeks will change your brain. This is an evidence-based course and I want you to feel confident that if you put in the time, you will receive the benefits you're looking for.
Also, building a habit takes time. 8 weeks gives you the time you need to develop the life-changing habit of mindfulness meditation.
Each week you'll receive a new module with lessons and guided meditations so you won't be overwhelmed by 8 weeks worth of information coming at you all at once.
Q: I’ve had a hard time keeping up with on-line courses in the past. What makes this one different?
I’ve specifically chosen an 8 week format for a reason. This is just the right amount of time to support new healthy habits without getting burned out.
The time commitment is absolutely do-able and there's no fluff. Each practice I offer is meant to create maximum change in minimum time so you won't be going through non-essential material.
I've built in support and interaction (4 zoom classes, community building, accountability buddies and more) to keep you engaged with the material and connected to the community and me.
Q: What if I can’t attend the 4 zoom classes?
You’ll receive a recording of the class and if you are unable to attend, you can send questions that you would like me to address on the call. That said, while the first class scheduled for Feb 1, the next 3 will be scheduled based on the availability of students. I'll pick the time/dates that serves the most people.
While the zoom classes will reinforce what you are learning and build community, all of the lectures and meditations are located on your course page and available to you to work with at your own pace. If you aren't at the live meeting, you won't miss the teachings.
Q: What is the time commitment?
Like most things, the answer depends on you and how deeply you want to dive. I recommend dedicating 10-15 minutes a day or 20 minutes 3 times a week for mindfulness practice and 15 - 30 minutes weekly to go through the video lessons and reflections.
We'll have 4 one-hour live sessions throughout the course, beginning on Feb 1 and they will be recorded in the event that you can't be there or would like to watch again.
Then there are the "options":
You'll receive journal prompts to help you reflect on your experience throughout the week.
I'll send a resource or two each week to support the material we're working with.
You'll receive an "accountability buddy" to help you stay on track.
In terms of time, the only "absolute" is that you develop a regular mindfulness practice of at least 60 minutes per week. As you pay more attention to what is causing you stress, you may learn that you are "doing" too many things in some areas of your life, causing you to make some changes that leave you with more time than you started with:)
Here's what students and colleagues are saying about the course…
"Your Brain on Mindfulness was like a curated tour through my brain that allowed me to stop and re-wire synapses along the way. Rachel’s presence created a safe place for me to laugh, cry, discover and nurture my best self. Truly the nicest thing I’ve done for myself in this lifetime."
"Rachel’s course synthesized information for me in a way that made complex and challenging material accessible. Her depth of knowledge shines through experiential activities thoughtfully assembled and presented with warmth and authenticity. Rachel’s offerings are an indelible resource to longtime practitioners as well as the newbie."
"Rachel Posner's "Your Brain on Mindfulness Class" was just what the doctor ordered! She offered evidence-based practices to calm my nerves and feel more present, which I continue to use well after the course. The structure worked for me, since I work full time and therefore could access the materials at my own pace. I also really appreciated how available she was for personal conversations throughout the 8 week course, and the live sessions that she offered which helped me feel part of a community (even if I did have to watch them later due to scheduling issues). Rachel is clearly passionate about this material about which she is an expert; she is a warm instructor who made me feel comfortable and inspired. I highly recommend you take this course!"
Registration ends tomorrow - Saturday, Jan, 30!
