Doing something difficult is easier when you have support. Whether it's an exercise goal, starting a new project or a life transition, when we explore something alone, it is more stressful than when we have someone to share it with. Consider this for a moment. Think about something difficult you're trying to do right now. Are you in it alone? If so, could you enlist a friend or partner to help you? Notice whether it feels more or less stressful based on your support system.
Research shows:
Feeling connected and supported greatly reduces our stress levels and positively affects our health.
When we feel that our struggles are shared, we are more resilient; we feel more capable and ready to take on our challenges
Loneliness increases stress.
Relationships of all kinds decrease stress. That’s true of both the deep connections we have with family and close friends as well as the more casual relationships we have with acquaintances.
Strong relationships are among the top markers for happiness.
Today more than ever, we need to build connections!
Physical isolation does not necessitate social isolation. Despite covid, we can still nourish our communities.
That’s why Your Brain on Mindfulness is embedded with support and opportunities to build relationships.
We'll have four one-hour community classes on Zoom. These are interactive classes where you'll have an opportunity to connect with one another. I'll offer a group meditation and make time for group interaction so that you can share in one another's victories and experience the support of the community. ***Zoom classes will be recorded in the event that you can't make it.
Accountability buddies (optional). You'll be paired with another student so that you can help one another stay on track. What this looks like is up to you. It can range from a daily or weekly text with a thumbs up or thumbs down to a weekly check in call to share more deeply. It's completely up to you and your partner.
Your Yoga: a Virtual Community. You'll have access to Your Yoga throughout the 8 weeks (optional). As we move through the course, I'll offer the same themes in my Your Yoga classes. I find that this full body experience creates more opportunity for transformation and connection.
Personal attention. I am always one email, phone call or video chat away. I’ll be available throughout the week to answer questions and offer support.
And because I want to support you in strengthening your connections, when you join with a friend you’ll each get $70 off! Just enter FRIEND in the coupon code.
If I can answer any questions, please reply to this email. I’d love to talk to you about whether this course is right for you. And if finances are an issue, let's talk about that as well. Scholarships are available.
